Matteo Pericoli: London Unfurled

London Unfurled succeeds Matteo Pericoli’s Manhattan Unfurled, published in 2001. At first this quite unique portrait of London baffles and leaves one perplexed. What am I supposed to do with these two 37-foot-long pen-and-ink drawings that form the detailed views of the city’s north and south banks? And then you understand – you are simply supposed to look at them, to admire the remarkable accuracy of the images, to share it with your friends, to discuss it, to test your knowledge of London, to turn it into a game or a conversation piece. You immediately recognize the most obvious landmarks (the Houses of Parliament, Big Ben, Millennium Wheel) but what about the dozen boroughs and all of the nineteen bridges detailed in the drawings? You hardly knew they existed. Here they are, in these drawings that are absolutely magnificent, breathtaking skylines of the city put together in the accordion-style sophisticated volume.

London Unfurled is Matteo Pericoli’s brilliant artistic creation of one of the world’s most fascinating cities.
